A high-end aesthetic has been achieved with careful attention to spatial layout, furniture, fittings and fixtures. We aimed to create an aspirational space that reconceptualises this next stage in life as a place to carry on hobbies and relationships. The bright entrance hall draws in views of the beautiful landscaping outside. The open plan layout creates a sense of freedom and independence for residents, and yet excellent visual connectivity supports staff to see and care for them. With a planning permit in place, and limits on height and footprint, there were significant constraints in achieving the programming aspirations of the client. The design has successfully navigated the balance of operational considerations and residents’ aspirations.

On a macro scale, this design is a precedent that contributes to the wider conversation about ageing in place and with dignity in Australia and serves as a precedent for others designing for this sector.

Nursing Homes Care Fees - 20 September 2024

From 20 September 2024, the following aged care fees have become effective:

The Basic Daily Care Fee increased to $63.57 pd (from $61.96 pd).

The Fully-Supported Asset Threshold increased to $61,500 (from $59,500).

The Non-Supported Asset Threshold increased to $206,039 (from $201,231).

The maximum Daily Accommodation Contribution (DAC) for refurbished / non-refurbished rooms is $69.49 pd / $45.31 pd respectively.

The effective Refundable Accommodation Contribution (RAC) for a refurbished facility, above the 40% fully supported ratio, will be $303,395 which will put pressure on persons looking for a fully supported placement, given that the average RAD is now higher than this amount.

The Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR) will change from 8.36% pa to 8.38%pa from 1 October 2024.

The Basic Daily Care Fee and some aged care thresholds are indexed to the Age Pension. On the 20 September 2024, the single age pension increased to $1,144.40 fn. This is based upon increases in the cost of living reflected in the Pensioner & Beneficiary Living Cost Index (PBLCI).
